This Privacy Policy explains how Giftapp ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.
By using the App, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect
- Payment or financial information: The App does not collect credit card numbers, bank account details, or process any payments.
- Location data: We do not track or collect your geographic location.
- Contacts: We do not access your phone contacts or address book.
- Photos or media: We do not access your photo library (camera is used only for QR code scanning).
- Advertising identifiers: We do not collect any advertising IDs or use ad tracking.
- Analytics or tracking: We do not use any third-party analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs beyond Firebase's core services.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Create and manage your user account.
- Enable you to create, join, and participate in gift list and Secret Santa events.
- Display gift information, contributions, and participant details to event members.
- Enforce unique usernames and email addresses.
- Facilitate QR code–based event sharing.
- Fetch product information from external URLs that you provide (e.g., Amazon links).
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or selling to third parties.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase services:
- Firebase Authentication: Handles user account creation and login. Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text.
- Cloud Firestore: Stores event, gift, and user data. Access is controlled by security rules that restrict data access to authorized users (event owners and members) only.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:
- Within the App: Event-related data (gift selections, contributions, messages) is shared with other members of the same event as part of the App's core functionality.
- Service Providers: We use Google Firebase for authentication, data storage, and hosting. Firebase processes data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
7. Third-Party Services
The App interacts with the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase: For authentication, database, and backend services. See Firebase Privacy.
- Amazon (product pages): When you paste an Amazon link, the App fetches publicly available product information (title, image, price) from the Amazon website. We do not share your data with Amazon, and Amazon does not receive any information about you through this process.
8. Camera Usage
The App requests camera access solely for scanning QR codes to join events. The camera is not used for taking photos, recording video, or any other purpose. Camera access can be revoked at any time through your device settings.
9. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained for as long as you maintain an active account.
- Event and gift data is retained for as long as the event exists in the system.
- When you delete your account, your personal account data is permanently removed.
- Contributions and messages you left on other users' events may persist in anonymized form after account deletion, as they are part of the event's shared record.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: You can view your personal information in the Profile section of the App.
- Correction: You can update your username and email directly in the App.
- Deletion: You can delete your account at any time through the Profile section. This permanently removes your account data.
- Portability: You may request a copy of your data by contacting us.
- Objection / Restriction: If you have concerns about how your data is processed, you may contact us and we will address your request.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.
12. International Data Transfers
Your data may be stored and processed on servers located outside your country of residence (via Google Firebase's global infrastructure). By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
